Volleyball 1994 - ‘97

A four-year Varsity letter winner in Volleyball, Heather is one of seven Olmstead siblings to play volleyball for the Warriors. From 1994 to 1997, she played with her twin sister Nicole, with dad Rick serving as an assistant coach, and eventually, younger sister Karalee joined the team as well. Heather earned First Team Tri-Valley League honors as a junior and was the TVL Co-MVP her senior season. Heather earned All CIF honors and was named to the Santa Barbara All-County team. Heather went on to play volleyball for Utah State University, where she started as a defensive specialist for four seasons (1998-2001). She ranks 9th at USU in career digs and set the USS single season dig record. While at USU, her teams advanced to two NCAA tournaments and had a pair of Top 25 rankings. She was drafted for the United States Professional Volleyball Team (2002-03) and played in Croatia in the European Professional Volleyball League (2003). Heather graduated from Utah State with a degree in Family and Consumer Science and is now a collegiate volleyball coach. She served as an assistant coach at Utah State (2003-05), Utah (2006-10) and BYU (2011-14) and was named head coach of the BYU women’s program in June of 2015. As head coach of the Cougars, Heather has led BYU to multiple Sweet 16 appearances and WCC titles. In 2018, her team was ranked #1 for 11 straight weeks, went to the Final Four and finished the season ranked #4. She currently holds the highest winning percentage of any women’s volleyball coach in NCAA Division I history and is the fastest coach to reach 200 Division I wins, doing so in just 225 games. Heather has also coached internationally, including serving as head coach of the U.S. Collegiate National Team - Japan in May 2019 and as the assistant coach on the U.S. team that won gold at the 2015 Pan American Games and bronze at the 2016 Pan Am Cup. She was an assistant coach for the 2022 USA U21 team that won gold at the Pan American Cup and the 2023 Collegiate National Team. Heather was recently named the head coach for the U21 National Team that will compete at the Norceca Continental Championship in Toronto in the summer of 2024.
