Tennis 1980-’83

A two-sport athlete for CHS, Mike Giusto lettered in basketball and tennis. And while he found success on the basketball court as a member of the 1982 Tri-Valley League champion team, the tennis court is where he truly left his mark. Mike was a four-year varsity letterman in tennis, and went undefeated in Tri-Valley League singles competition. He was the TVL league singles runner-up in 1980 and 1981, and the league champion in 1982 and 1983. During his four years at CHS, the boys tennis team won the TVL crown each year and won back-to-back CIF 1-A Championships in 1981 and 1982, while finishing second in 1983. With doubles partner Ferenc Hodosy, Mike reached the CIF doubles semi-final round in 1983. He earned All Tri-Valley League honors in each of his four tennis seasons, and was named league MVP in 1982 and 1983. A National Merit Scholar, Mike went on to be an All American in tennis at Cal Poly SLO. He was a three-time national individual tournament qualifier and made the quarterfinals in doubles play. He was awarded the Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership Award for NCAA Division II in 1988, was inducted into the Cal Poly Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame in 2018.. Mike earned a BS in Engineering Science from Cal Poly and is currently a manufacturing engineering manager at Intuitive Surgical Inc. in Sunnyvale, CA. He and his wife, Tina, have twin sons, Jordon and Cole.
