Sarah Grieve Miller was a standout student athlete at Carpinteria High School as a member of the Track & Field and Girls Basketball programs, winning Tri-Valley League titles in both sports in 2000 and lettering a combined seven times. Sarah was also the Valedictorian of the CHS Class of 2001.

On the field, Sarah earned three Varsity letters as a thrower, reaching CIF prelims in the Shot Put and finals in the Discus. She earned All-TVL Honorable Mention honors in the Shot in 2000 and was named to the Second Team in Discus in 2000 and Shot in 2001. 

On the court, Sarah rewrote the record books and led the Warriors to three consecutive CIF playoff appearances. In league play, Sarah earned TVL Honorable Mention honors as a freshman, was named to the First Team as a sophomore, was league MVP as a junior and Co-MVP as a senior. Additionally, she was a member of the All-CIF First Team in both 2000 and 2001.

Sarah set CHS school career records for rebounds with 1,503 and blocks with 409, and was the second leading scorer with 1,252 points. She also set single-season records for points with 540, rebounds with 458 and blocks at 147, along with single-game records of 28 rebounds and 12 blocks.

Sarah continued her basketball career at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo from 2001 to 2006, starting at the Center position. She is fourth on the Mustangs career blocked shots list with 77. The epitome of a scholar athlete, Sarah was named to the Big West All-Academic Team in 2004, 2005 and 2006, was on the Academic All-American First Team in 2006 and was the Cal Poly Student Athlete of the Year in 2006.

A published poet and noted academic, Sarah received a B.A. and M.A. in English from Cal Poly and went on to receive an MFA in Creative Writing from Florida State and a PhD in American Literature from Arizona State. Sarah is an English professor at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, where she lives with her husband Adam and daughter Lucy.
